Anissa Starnes has more than 30 years of experience in nonprofit management with most of those years being spent with chambers of commerce. She currently serves as Vice President, Member Engagement for the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE).
Prior to joining ACCE in April of 2021, she served as in-house consultant with the organization while running her own consultancy, Swingbridge Partners, where she focused on executive searches, strategic planning, board development and public speaking for groups of all sizes.
Anissa began her career at the Charlotte Chamber. After her tenure in Charlotte, she served as President/CEO for multiple chambers in the Carolinas.
During her career she also served as President/CEO for the well-known girl’s empowerment nonprofit, Girls on the Run International, and she spent 8 years with Constant Contact as the Director, National Organizations, where she oversaw the partnership of more than 4,500 chambers. While at Constant Contact, she educated more than 35,000 nonprofits, chambers, and small businesses on communications and marketing.
Anissa is a graduate of the University of Georgia’s Institute for Organization Management program and South Carolina Economic Development School at the College of Charleston. She has previously served as a member of faculty at all four of the Institute sites for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and currently serves as a member on the Board of Trustees and the curriculum committee. Anissa serves as a volunteer for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and sits on the board of Claire’s Army, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the families of pediatric cancer patients.
Anissa and her husband Jerry reside in Charlotte and enjoy fly-fishing, hiking the Appalachian Trail, and cheering for their favorite team, the Carolina Panthers. Anissa is known as “Shiny” to her granddaughter, Lenora, and that is her most favorite title that she has held to date.
