Two years ago Tina Ross lay in a hospital bed blinded by the chemotherapy she was receiving in her battle against breast cancer. Unable to do much other than think and reflect she conceived an idea to raise money for Claire’s Army through her Presbyterian Women’s group. The events have been held at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill, North Carolina. The ladies and young ladies of the community meet every spring in a gym at the church that for one day is transformed into a magical wonderland. Each table host designs a theme for her table and then invites her friends to join her for the event. Tables have been designed based on favorite children’s books like Eric Carle’s “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”, “The Wizard of Oz” and “Harry Potter”. WBTV’s, Kristen Miranda emcee’s the event and Claire’s Mom, Emily delivered a keynote address giving information about the Army and sharing a few stories about Claire. The menu included many of Claire’s favorite foods like pancakes and fresh fruit.
